Highlights include dramatic masquerade pageants, steel band competitions and the crowning of a Carnival King & Queen.

Miami’s Caribbean Festival takes place over Columbus Day Weekend and includes music, dance, enchanting costumes and rhythmic drumming. Guests from across the Caribbean fly in to take part in the parades and new competitions for decorative floats and fancy dress are added each year. In 1990, the first Junior Carnival Parade was staged the day before the main parade to encourage all South Florida kids to join with thousands of their Caribbean classmates and participate in this diverse celebration.

Get ready for days of family fun, face painting for the kids and lots of great ethnic foods from all across the Islands. Miami’s Junior Carnival takes place Saturday, September 29th, 2018 from 12noon-11pm at Central Broward Regional Park. Steel Bands will compete in “Panorama,” a championship match featuring musicians from across the globe Friday, October 5th from 4pm-11pm at the Central Broward Regional Park and J’ouvert is a massive street party, 7am-3pm, on Saturday, October 6. Drama at the velvet ropes followed by a jam-packed club scene can often wrench the last bit of passion from ones nocturnal plans, but for those in the know, Miami Beach offers numerous opportunities for an amorous evening out on the town. Here’s our list of Upscale Lounges.

Setai Lounge Bar

The long, low bar, dim lighting and cozy leather chairs offer the ideal atmosphere for lingering over cocktails with that special someone whether it’s on the first date or the tenth. The room’s main attraction is a wall with floor-to-ceiling wine cabinets that showcase an impressive and extensive selection of champagnes and wines. The menu offers an array of light bites and a rich assortment of caviar from around the world, which is alone reason enough to stop in for an indulgent dinner or late night rendezvous.

Terrazzo floors, polished wood finishes, classic bar stools and jazz lulling in the background make it the ultimate place to linger long after the sun has gone down. André Balazs of New York’s Mercer and Los Angeles’ Standard fame, refurbished the hotel to its original 1940’s splendor before moving on to other endeavors and the revelers have followed accordingly.

Even if you aren’t a guest at the hotel, the Martini Bar is a must-see – it’s as intimate and sexy as they come. You can expect a full-service bar complete with a nice wine selection, but as you probably guessed, the martini is de rigueur. How you take yours is completely up to you, but they offer a menu of more than ten different flavors, including the famous Raleigh Martini. Dress to impress because you never know whom you might be rubbing elbows with here.

Lincoln Road https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/lincoln-road/ Thu, 25 Jan 2018 00:05:13 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=822 [...]]]> Great cities throughout the world have one thing in common—that one street which draws both locals and visitors to all the best stores and restaurants. While there are a number of attractive avenues you’ll want to visit in Miami Beach, the pedestrian mall known as Lincoln Road is considered the true heart and soul of South Beach.

Ocean Drive attracts tourists looking for a quick fix of “Miami Vice” neon and retro-deco styling; it’s the place locals take out of town guests to show them the sights. But, Lincoln Road provides a more authentic experience where just about everyone gathers to shop and dine under a brilliant Miami sun. With little resemblance to Small Town USA, Lincoln Road is a tropical Broadway, homey yet hip, with a sex appeal all its own.

1111 Building on Lincoln Road

No other avenue in the City is as popular 24 hours a day. While television shows like “Cheers” and “Friends” fictionalize cozy neighborhood places where everyone knows your name, the sunny sidewalk cafes along Lincoln Mall are frequent meeting places for friendly neighbors and social groups who gather to catch up on shared interests.

Newcomers will find it difficult to tell where one cafe ends and another begins. This open plan design is deliberate. Some venues favor boundaries, but not South Beach. The sports bar, the gay bar, the coffee shop and the deli all share tables and customers. Simply find an empty seat at a sunlit table to join the community. Folks who skateboard, rollerblade or bicycle meet on Lincoln. New parents bring overwrought toddlers to the Euclid Circle to barrel around and blow off steam. Ex-pats from cities around the globe find fellow countrymen to discuss world events, football matches and the goings-on back home. If America is indeed a melting pot, Lincoln Road is the red-hot burner in South Florida.

Nexxt Cafe
Nexxt Cafe
Let’s Get Started…

The Sunday Antique and Farmer’s Market get the week off to a great start. Morning joggers, earnest home cooks and casual shoppers join the crowd of collectors up at sunrise hoping to find a bargain. While there is no big box home store on the island, local nurseries bring in apartment-friendly houseplants for porch and patio. Many residents furnish their homes, fill their pantries and decorate their balconies at the weekly markets.

In the past few years, clever New York decorators and fashion stylists have boasted to national publications about the treasures they’ve unearthed at the Lincoln Road Flea Market. Suffice to say, those used to getting rock-bottom prices now meet the antique dealers’ trucks the moment they start to unpack. Competition is fierce! (Alternate Sundays October through May)

On holiday nights, families gather on the mall after dinner to check out the local revelers and catch up with old friends. Halloween is a particularly popular time of year. Local merchants encourage kids to trick or treat in all of their shops. Meanwhile, local drag queens parade in full regalia up and down the avenue hoping for cheers of encouragement from those lucky enough to score a table at a sidewalk cafe. Elaborate costumes created for local competitions or worn simply to provoke the crowd are everywhere you look. Everyone cheers, everyone takes photos; it’s a big party.

The weekends before and after Halloween are some of the busiest of the year. October kicks off the official holiday season. Temperatures might creep into the 80s, but the holiday lights twinkle in all of the palm trees along the mall. Holiday shopping at the quirky boutiques, art galleries and chain stores is always a bit more fun than at a traditional shopping center. New Year’s Eve is also intensely popular before and after the midnight fireworks at the beach. Black tie dressed couples and flip flop wearing teens compete for a place to hang out and celebrate. By accident or by design, there is always something to do on Lincoln Mall.

We’ve wandered from Bayside to Seaside along Lincoln Road and even explored the cross streets to help you navigate the incredible dining scene on this popular promenade. Whether you want a quick bite before the theater, a casual lunch while shopping, or a romantic dinner just for two, you’ll find a dazzling array of options all along Lincoln Road Mall. Since no cars are permitted from Washington Avenue through Alton Road, you’ll need to do a bit of walking to find the perfect spot. Are you ready?

Let’s eat!

One block west of Alton Road at West Avenue, savvy locals make frequent visits to Panizza Cafe, an Argentinean bakery specializing in empanada pocket pastries. While a significant portion of Lincoln Road is closed to cars, the last few blocks on the west side are busy with families getting their shopping done and buzzing around the residential district. Travelers who want to discover a quieter restaurant or glimpse local city life should venture west of Lincoln Mall.

At the intersection of Lincoln and Michigan, Finnegan’s Two attracts European Football Fans by day and local rock musicians by night. While some nightclubs on South Beach have a strict velvet rope policy, this is not the case at most of the bars along Lincoln Mall. Finnegan’s posts pub specials on a chalkboard by the door including happy hour drink prices and the name of the band performing that night.

1111 Building on Lincoln Road
1111 Building on Lincoln Road

Just a few steps south on Michigan, The Frieze Ice Cream Factory dreams up exotic flavors for some of the top restaurants in town and also serves cups and cones at the counter. New on the scene, Jezebel Bar + Kitchen attracts late night revelers seeking food and company in the wee hours. Specializing in craft cocktails and elevated pub grub, this hip hideaway is open until 5am.

While many national booksellers have expanded their services to include a coffee bar, Miami’s favorite Books & Books offers a full menu and a tapas and drinks list as well. At the busy Meridian Avenue intersection, find Havana 1957, a Cuban restaurant that will make you feel like family. Friendly service, Cuban classics and nightly specials make this alfresco cafe a local favorite. For a night that moves to a Miami beat, Yuca Restaurant has long attracted diners seeking a modern approach to Cuban cuisine. Latin cuisine can also be found at Baires Grill, Tapelia, HuaHua’s Taqueria and Cvi.Che 105.

Budget-conscious diners can find American comfort food classics at Shake Shack, happy hour food and drink deals at Yard House and complimentary passed hors d’oeuvres during happy hour Friday evenings at Meat Market.

Lincoln Road

Diners in search of Italian fare can choose from simple pizza and pasta shops like Rosinella, Spris, and Pizza Rustica, or visit the more upscale Sibilla and Quattro Gastronomia Italiana. Quattro is one of the top-dollar doors on Lincoln Mall, so be sure to make reservations to sample the hip, culinary pyrotechnics.

Asian restaurants on Lincoln Mall encompass Sushi, Thai, “Asian Fusion,” and Chinese. Among the best are Sushi Samba Dromo, a Brazilian-accented sushi bar that’s a nightclub after hours, and Doraku Sushi which has a popular weeknight happy hour and lunchtime meal deals.

Euclid Circle is a unique, kid-friendly spot of grass at the center of Lincoln Mall. Because there are few green spaces to congregate in the area, kids and dogs are drawn to this tiny island surrounded by cafes and ice cream shops. Nexxt Cafe encompasses the southern side of the circle with umbrella-shaded tables filled with hungry diners. Portions are big enough to share at this popular cafe serving giant breakfasts, main plate salads and towering sandwiches. Across the way, one of three branches of Pizza Rustica offers pies and pizza by-the-slice, perfect for a quick bite or a hungry toddler.

See you there …

Lincoln Road pulses with all of the energy of South Beach. Whether you’re up early and need a jolt of coffee and a hearty morning meal or you’re looking for a romantic place to enjoy a hot Miami night, there is something for everyone on this busy pedestrian mall. While hot summer days often seem overwhelming, these breezy cafes welcome thirsty travelers and busy locals around the clock. Check theater, symphony and gallery listings to help you plan a great night out on Miami Beach’s Main Street. You’re sure to feel like a part of the scene once you experience the great shopping, friendly bars and delicious ethnic restaurants all along Lincoln Road Mall.

Dining South of Fifth https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/dining-south-of-fifth/ Mon, 22 Jan 2018 00:34:09 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=1684 [...]]]> South Beach foodies are newly focused upon the exciting dining scene South of Fifth Street. Once home to little more than Joe’s Stone Crab, SoFi now boasts Prime One Twelve, Estiatorio Milos, Fogo de Chao, RED the Steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky, and French 27 all packed into a few city blocks. A welcome addition to the SoFi District, French 27’s dazzling dining room provides a dramatic backdrop for fine food and regional wines.

Against that backdrop, we present our view of the top ten spots in SoFi for travelers coming to Miami Beach this season and wishing to sample the best dining the area has to offer. And in case you’re wondering, the hotels you’ll want to consider for your culinary excursion are: Hilton Bentley South Beach, Marriott Stanton South Beach, The Savoy and the Lord Balfour Hotel.

Prime One Twelve
Prime One Twelve
Prime One Twelve / 112 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL

South Beach is a highly charged, highly competitive atmosphere and no place stands as far above the herd of pricey steakhouses as this sceney SoFi location where the celebrity and super model clientele is nearly more dazzling than the food. Order a juicy slab of beef and plenty of decadent sides like the truffled mac & cheese and the divine lobster bisque. Accept no substitutions – Prime 112 is the real deal.

Prime Italian
Prime Italian
Prime Italian / 101 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL

If the lines are too long or you simply forgot to reserve a table across the street, you can relax in the knowledge that nearly every delicious entree served up at Prime 112 is also available at this pretty little sister spot where a hefty helping of red-sauced Italian fare fills out the entree list with garlicky aplomb. Try the giant Kobe meatball and be sure to leave room for dessert! Chances are the Miami HEAT players who are dodging the paparazzi are eating here too.

Texas De Brazil
Texas De Brazil
Texas De Brazil / 300 Alton Road, Miami Beach, FL

Set atop the Miami Beach Marina, this all-you-care-to-eat churrascaria serves tender cuts of beef, lamb, chicken and pork to hungry diners who patiently watch as gaucho servers slice the just-grilled meats from steel skewers directly onto their plates. Enjoy the huge soup and salad bar, but practice some discretion as the star of the show is searing away on that stunning Brazilian grill! Prices are per guest and larger parties can easily be accommodated at this friendly SoFi steakhouse with a million dollar view.

Fogo de Chao
Fogo de Chao
Fogo de Chao / 836 First Street, Miami Beach, FL

The smaller cousin to the Texas de Brazil chain, Fogo de Chao fills First Street with the succulent scent of just-grilled meat which is served by a prompt and professional waitstaff at this charming SoFi steakhouse. Enjoy the fine wine list and a 30 item appetizer selection and when you are ready for a parade of 15 different tender cuts, simply turn your placard to green and let the magic begin! The gaucho chefs slice and serve each grilled treat until you’ve had your fill.

RED the Steakhouse
RED the Steakhouse
RED the Steakhouse / 119 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL

Straight out of Cleveland and right to the top of Florida Foodies must-have list, RED the Steakhouse is one of SoFi’s finest. Restaurateur Brad Friedlander brought Chef Peter Vauthy to South Beach to craft a menu that is sizzling, sexy and stocked with Certified Angus prime beef, chops, lamb and Florida-fresh seafood. The wine list boasts over 700 pours which pair perfectly with the dinner menu or make a sparkling complement to some truly decadent desserts.

Joe's Stone Crab
Joe’s Stone Crab
Joe’s Stone Crab / 11 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL

The oldest and truly one of the best restaurants to grace the SoFi shoreline, Joe’s has served Florida’s freshest seafood to happy visitors, celebrities and socialites since 1913. Enjoying a storied past which includes run-ins with Al Capone, Will Rogers, Amelia Earhart and Walter Winchell, one of the best things about the landmark restaurant is that the food is still more important than the particular pedigree of the guests. Don’t miss the spicy chowder, the crisp cole slaw or the creamy Key Lime pie.

Smith & Wollensky / 1 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL

Steakhouses are popular and plentiful on South Beach but none can boast the truly magnificent view offered at Smith & Wollensky where alfresco tables line the busy waterway where some of the world’s largest cruise ships slip slowly by on their way out to sea. Stop in at sunset for a drink at the back bar and then stay for a juicy steak, a hearty slice of tender prime rib or a huge slab of chocolate layer cake served promptly and politely under the rising Miami Beach moon.

Estiatorio Milos by Costas Spiliadis in South Beach
Estiatorio Milos by Costas Spiliadis in South Beach
Estiatorio Milos by Costas Spiliadis / 730 First Street, Miami Beach, FL

Greek cuisine is all about fresh ingredients prepared with minimal fuss and maximum flavor which makes Estiatorio Milos the benchmark for upscale Greek dining in South Florida. Evoking a breezy vacation atmosphere, the white tables, gleaming stone work and ethereal sheer panels serve as the perfect backdrop for a truly memorable meal. Ideal for a prix fixe lunch or a romantic dinner, the lobster pasta and salt baked whole fish are delectable. Heads turn as the whip smart staff serves platters of pristine seafood to an appreciative, well-dressed crowd.

South Beach Magazine’s Art Basel Miami Beach 2017 Guide https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/art-basel-guide/ Fri, 24 Nov 2017 12:54:05 +0000 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15903 [...]]]> While early December may bring dark and gloomy weather to most of the country, the sun shines brightly on South Florida where the world’s biggest stars gather to celebrate the Fine Art of the Deal that is Art Basel Miami Beach. So much more than a series of multi-million dollar international art fairs, this massive cultural showcase attracts A-list celebrities and big money socialites who attend VIP parties both public and private throughout the week.

While most of the world thrills to paparazzi photos of their favorite stars online each day, Miami plays host to artists, fashion designers, supermodels, professional athletes, and mega-stars who are rarely seen in public at the same time. Attendance at any of the art presentations comes with the very likely chance to rub elbows with screen icons and global billionaires who wander through the pavilions gazing at the collected works of classic and modern artists.

Art Basel

“Art Basel’s well-delineated sectors offer one of the most comprehensive looks at the state of art today.” ~ Isabella Mason

The focal point of South Florida’s art festival week, Art Basel Miami Beach takes over Miami Beach’s Convention Center during the first week of December to showcase contemporary paintings, sculptures, photographs, films and digital works by both established and emerging artists for over 70,000 visitors. Following a rigorous review process, 250 select galleries from across the world are assigned small, white-washed spaces organized by sectors throughout the massive meeting space to display their finest works for collectors, museum curators, international art critics and the general public. The show starts with two days of private showings followed by four rather spectacular afternoons of public viewing from Thursday throughout the weekend.

Satellite Art Fairs

Each December during Art Basel, nearly twenty Satellite Art Fairs are staged throughout South Florida from massive beachfront pavillions to tiny shipping containers, assorted hotel rooms and impromptu urban galleries across the city. One of the biggest weeks in visual art, the city is best navigated with a predetermined plan in mind and comfortable shoes in tow. Gala openings and late night after parties can be announced at the last minute (and Miami’s finicky weather plays an important role), so a degree of flexibility is essential to viewing success.

The primary fairs divide between Miami Beach and across Biscayne Bay in Miami with area museums and important galleries also hosting special events. The larger fairs offer dedicated shuttle service around Miami which may prove an important asset as traffic and parking issues abound. Best to enjoy the fairs in Miami one day and the showcases on Miami Beach the next to avoid the hassle of navigating crowds and causeways.

Free City Shuttle

Travel in style on a dedicated bus that runs about every 15 minutes.

Stiltsville Fish Bar in Sunset Harbour https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/stiltsville-fish-bar/ Thu, 23 Nov 2017 15:35:24 +0000 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15894 [...]]]> South Beach’s tony Sunset Harbour District is home to a number of high profile restaurants and bars including Stiltsville Fish Bar, the latest effort from culinary couple Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth. Chef Jeff spent his childhood happily fishing in the panhandle region of Florida’s Gulf Coast so he hopes to bring that simple and relaxing lifestyle to the cozy west side dining room. His wife Janine grew up grilling seafood on the family barbeque in Australia where the simple pleasures of food and fun inspired her to become a chef.

“Stiltsville Fish Bar will be a laid back, neighborhood restaurant where guests can enjoy a relaxing view of the bay and have an amazing meal with family and friends,” says Founder and Co-CEO, Ignacio Garcia-Menocal. “The menu, ambiance and fun nature of the restaurant will make the rich history of Stiltsville come alive in Sunset Harbour.” The menu features snacks and small plates like smoked fish dip and sweet corn spoon bread as well as larger shareable offerings like a lobster topped hamburger, a whole fried chicken and crispy Key Lime dusted snapper.

To add to the seaside charm, a curated beverage program takes its inspiration from Key West with party-ready cocktails, fruit infused mixes and plenty of down home appeal. The bar sits on one side of the nautically-appointed dining room. While the inviting sea blue and sandy beach color palette provides a welcoming atmosphere, guests eagerly anticipate the 2018 opening of the second floor sun deck where a cooling adult beverage will pair perfectly with views of the sunset over Biscayne Bay.

Florida foodies may recall that Chef McInnis took part in the launch of the popular comfort food restaurant Yardbird Southern Table and Bar before decamping to MidTown to launch GiGi and then moving to New York to bring his signature fried chicken to Manhattan at Root & Bone. He and wife Janine Booth opened the Sarsaparilla Club on South Beach before getting together with Grove Bay Hospitality Group to launch Stiltsville earlier this year.

All-day offerings include fresh and locally-sourced ingredients prepared simply. Starters of Green Deviled Eggs, Grilled Peaches with Ricotta and Pimento Cheese Croquettes bring a home made vibe to the table. Entrees like Shrimp n’ Grits, Bone Marrow Crusted NY Steak and BBQ Whole Fish will satisfy heartier appetites.

Stiltsville Fish Bar is located at 1787 Purdy Avenue on South Beach. Serving lunch and dinner daily plus brunch weekends.

Chefs Janine Booth & Jeff McInnis | Stiltsville Fish Bar https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/janine-booth-jeff-mcinnis/ Thu, 23 Nov 2017 00:53:14 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=11295 [...]]]> South Beach Magazine profiles Miami’s Top Chefs, including a number of recognizable faces from television’s most popular cooking shows. Stiltsville Fish Bar is a labor of love for telegenic Chefs Janine Booth and Jeff McInnis, who both tried their luck on different seasons of Bravo-TV’s “Top Chef” and then joined together to share the challenges of a working chef’s life by running their own restaurants. The two first worked together at Gigi in Midtown Miami and went on to craft some serious Southern-fried goodness at South Beach’s Yardbird Southern Table and Bar before decamping to Manhattan to launch the homestyle eatery Root & Bone in the East Village.

The couple’s return to Miami quickened the pulse of area foodies who truly missed the soulful flavors the chefs once brought to the table. If James Beard is to be believed, Chef McInnis and Yardbird were worthy of recognition as Best Chef: South and Best New Restaurant the last time McInnis called Miami Beach “home.” While most folks hoped they might open another down home kitchen, Booth and McInnis defied expectations with an American Dim Sum concept on the shores of South Beach called Sarsaparilla Club at the Shelborne Hotel.

Pimento Cheese Croquettes

The Sarsaparilla Club menu combined flavors both innovative and familiar to fans of the culinary duo including Asian-style street foods, a terrific selection of vegetarian dishes and a surprising riff on classic fried chicken that takes a turn in a Thai curry marinade. Admirers of Miami’s Chef Bee (who runs NaiYaRa Restaurant in the Sunset Harbour District) may detect the influence of his Vietnamese and Northern Thai flavors that so enchanted Chef Booth when she helped him open Khong River House on Lincoln Road Mall in 2012. This unique fusion of McInnis’ homey inspirations and Booth’s bright notes made a meal at The Sarsaparilla Club a revelation.

That creative effort has now run it’s course and the pair will shutter the Shelborne dining room to relaunch the Sarsaparilla space as a Florida outpost of Root & Bone in early December. For the moment, their hearts are set upon perfecting the down home flavors of Florida seafood at Stiltsville.

South Beach Magazine took some time to find out what life is like for the dynamic duo as they work through the first season of this brand new seafood restaurant in the former Joe Allen space in trendy Sunset Harbour. McInnis is calling upon his formative years cooking and fishing along Florida’s panhandle to inspire this more casual venture where the team hopes to build a rooftop sundeck to host nightly happy hours. Whatever happens next, you can be sure South Floridians will be listening for the dinner bell whenever it rings for these camera-ready craftsmen.

We were big fans of your work in South Florida before you moved to New York to open Root & Bone. Please tell us what it is like returning to Miami – living and working as chefs here once again.
We absolutely love this city and everything it has to offer. The sunshine, blue skies and beaches makes for the perfect atmosphere for us to be as creative as possible while allowing us to find a little more balance in our lives.

What is your favorite thing about being a chef in Miami right now?
We are so thrilled to be back here in Miami, especially at a time when the culinary scene is really developing and chefs are so inspired. We are seeing so many amazing restaurant concepts popping up, and we are proud to be part of this growth and transition.

If you hadn’t decided to become a chef, what would you be doing?
Jeff: I have always been good at two things – cooking and fishing – so I think I am in the right place!

Janine: I have always been very creative and one of my favorite parts of opening restaurants is concept development. I think I would go into brand and concept development.

What made you decide to go into business together?
We are both equally passionate about our business and work really well together. We both have our strengths and areas of the business where we flourish so we make a really great team.

It must be tough to find a sense of balance in life and work while running successful restaurants for you two. How to you make it work? Do you find the dynamic of taking on so much responsibility changes the way you work together?
Living in Miami makes life a dream! This city, the ocean, the air here does wonderful things for both of us. We make sure we schedule time to spend as a couple, so we are able to completely switch off from work. We love checking out new restaurants, swimming at the beach and going paddleboarding. Scheduling time for us helps us find balance and calm in our work as well.

Obviously you’ve thought a lot about creating a new approach to our local restaurant scene. What do you think the Miami food scene needs most and what would you like to see go away?
Janine: The food scene here has expanded so much and chefs are slowly filling the gaps in the market, but Jeff and I find ourselves constantly hunting for Indian food and local seafood!

When you’re not at work, where do you like to dine in South Florida?
We love little local spots like Macchialina where they make our favorite pastas, Visa-01 and Lucali serve up our favorite pizzas, Byblos for Mediterranean is amazing and NaiYaRa for our Thai fix.

When you are cooking at home for yourself or your friends & family, what’s your go-to dish?
Jeff: We love focusing on vegetables and getting experimental with whatever is in season. Although we love meat, it is the side dish in our house. Janine also has a really sweet tooth, so she loves making awesome healthy desserts.

How has cooking in Florida changed or inspired you as a chef? Do you find your menu is influenced by the produce available in Florida?
The seasons in Florida are so unusual and we love it! Getting heirloom tomatoes in January and strawberries soon after is amazing. The accessibility to farmers in Florida has developed hugely in the last few years and we are sourcing a huge amount of our produce, honey and dairy from local farms.

What’s one thing you want diners to know about the menu at your restaurant, perhaps your favorite dish, an unexpected entree or the inspiration behind one of the dishes you decided to include on the menu?
We are really proud of our fried chicken. In each of our restaurants we have a version of fried chicken but each one is particularly special.

South Florida diners are eager to discover new local restaurants for the first time. What do you hope they discover about your South Beach eatery?
We are incredibly excited for our project in Sunset Harbour, where the focus is Florida seafood. We will be building out the rooftop of our space so our guests can enjoy their meal while watching the beautiful sunset over Biscayne Bay.

LIV at the Fontainebleau Reveals Dazzling $10 Million Update https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/liv-fontainebleau-reveals-10-million-update/ Fri, 13 Oct 2017 14:15:37 +0000 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15829 [...]]]> Competition among Miami Beach’s top nightclubs is both fierce and fabulous now that LIV at the Fontainbleau Resort unveiled the astounding results of a $10 million makeover during an all-star celebrity sneak preview weekend featuring Travis Scott and DJ Skrillex. While the club’s official reopening is scheduled for October 5, Miami Beach’s cutting edge Vegas-style nightspot was filled to capacity in late September as the state of the art lighting system mesmerized crowds with its massive, motor-driven spider descending from the ceiling while confetti filled the air.

The pulsating $3 million spider serves as the centerpiece of LIV’s new look, something Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting took to heart as he crafted the enormous installation that encompasses the entire dance club dome. With over 400 individual motors controlling every movement, the digital beast virtually radiates across the walls into sparkling LED columns that undulate to the beat of the music or appear to burst into flashes and flames. Individual projection screens throughout the space – crafted by design firm Icrave – add impact to the light show, highlighting the DJ booth, twin staircases and layers of VIP seating.

Formed in 2008, MMG Nightlife currently operates three of South Florida’s most successful entertainment venues including LIV at the Fontainebleau Resort and at Hard Rock Stadium plus the popular SoFi hotspot, STORY Lounge. Mo Garcia, Vice President of Operations for MMG, takes extra pride in LIV’s nine week renovation process, a calculated risk he determined would pay off in rich rewards as the South Beach season moves into high gear. After nine successful years at the top of the nightlife scene, MMG decided it was time to find new ways to make the 18,000 square foot club a 360 degree sensory experience. With clubgoers posting every encounter live on social media, Garcia wanted to be sure every angle of the space makes a lasting impression.

MMG Kingpin David Grutman and his wife welcomed baby daughter Kaia the same week his flagship nightclub roared back to life. With an eye on the future of the nightlife industry, he was determined to craft the kind of entertainment experience that would appeal to the next generation. LIV’s relaunch gains momentum in the coming weeks with appearances by recording artists Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Gucci Mane and DJ Khaled, plus Prince Royce and Erick Morillo. Halloweekend events include DJs Politik and Hardwell who will appear October 27 & 28.

LIV at the Fontainebleau Resort, 4441 Collins Avenue opens Thursday through Sunday 11pm – 5am. For reservations, call 305-674-4680 or email VIP@LIVnightclub.com

Faena Theater Announces New Show: Sensatia https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/faena-theater-announces-sensatia/ Tue, 03 Oct 2017 00:28:33 +0000 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15822 [...]]]> Alan Faena is pleased to announce Sensatia, an interactive multimedia performance blending movement, sound and technology to stimulate and awaken the senses. Presented in Faena Theater in collaboration with Quixotic, a performance collective that combines dance, aerialists, musicians, specialty artists and projection mapping, the debut of Sensatia exemplifies Faena’s commitment to bringing singular experiences to Miami Beach.

A tale of awakened passions, Sensatia follows the path of an uninspired ballerina and overworked violinist as they are led by a muse into a fantasy cabaret where their magic is rekindled. Merging film, live music, perfumery, and culinary arts, the show is unique to Faena, and takes audiences on a journey of inspired discovery, promising a transcendent experience for guests. The performance is alluring and deeply engages audiences through activating each of the five senses, with the taste concept of the evening developed in collaboration with Chef Paul Qui, who is at the helm of Pao, one of Faena Hotel Miami Beach’s signature restaurants.

Sensatia invites guests of the hotel, visitors to Miami, and the local community alike to enjoy a memorable show in an unforgettable backdrop. The 3,000 square-foot, 150-seat Faena Theater provides an unmatched venue to enjoy live performances. Designed by Alan Faena, the intimate setting evokes the grand style of European opera houses, juxtaposing it with the glamour of 1950s Miami. The sumptuous space is marked by gold-leaf and red velvet decor, a dramatic curtain, and a gorgeous statement chandelier. Past performances include Macy Gray, Jon Bon Jovi, Spencer Ludwig, Miike Snow, Grace Potter, Caetano & Gil, Andra Day, C’est Rouge!, and many more.

Sensatia will debut October 12 and 13 with a community show for hurricane relief benefitting Feeding South Florida. The shows are limited seating on a first come, first serve basis with a minimum donation request of $15. Sensatia runs through until November 25 featuring a 9:00 p.m. show on Thursday, an 8:00 p.m. dinner show on Friday and Saturday, as well as an 11:00 p.m. show on Saturday. South Beach Welcomes Jezebel Bar + Kitchen https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/jezebel/ Tue, 15 Aug 2017 19:07:30 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15780 [...]]]> Nightlife Impresario Chris Paciello and partner Mio Danilovic have transformed the former MOVA Lounge space just off Lincoln Road Mall to Jezebel Kitchen + Bar. Tucked away on a quiet corner of Michigan Avenue, just steps from the popular pedestrian shopping destination, the attractive storefront location serves classic cocktails and late night bites in an old-world speakeasy atmosphere created by acclaimed interior designer François Frossard.

Jezebel

Smaller lounges with carefully curated musical soundtracks are gaining traction in South Florida this season as big room nightclubs give way to more intimate nighttime experiences. The 2,300 square foot venue embraces a retro aesthetic with Venetian columns, moody lighting and vintage leather furnishings. An oversized wooden slab bar is the focal point of the lounge where guests can gather 7 nights a week from 5pm until dawn. Adding to the ambiance, Liquid Hospitality tapped Miami graffiti artist Miguel Paredes to paint edgy street scenes with a New York vibe on perimeter walls.

Jezebel

Paciello is currently involved in South Beach nightspot Rockwell Miami and also opened the first east coast location of the fast casual Mexican eatery Tocaya Organica, a popular chain in Southern California now serving on Lincoln Mall. Jezebel Kitchen + Bar serves signature drinks – shaken, not stirred – like the El Chapo (mezcal, tequila, fresh lime juice, pineapple and chile syrup) to pair with drink-friendly small plates. The all-night menu features sushi and sashimi, truffled popcorn, mini tacos and spicy wings.

With cozy sofas, warm lighting and a trendy urban vibe, Jezebel is the ideal spot for after work drinks with friends, a romantic rendezvous before dinner or even a quick game of chess. The late closing time should also appeal to revelers looking for an out of the way spot to rest weary feet after a night of dancing.

Jezebel Kitchen + Bar. 1625 Michigan Avenue, Miami Beach, FL serves 5pm – 5am

The Romantic Table

Tables #86 and #87 are great for dates and anniversary celebrations as they are positioned riverside and feature a dimly lit ambiance with a view of the picturesque downtown skyline, helping set an intimate, glamorous mood.

Foodie Spot

A foodie favorite, table #301 in Modern Garden is ideal for those who enjoy watching food parade from the kitchen and catching the delicious aromas in anticipation of their meal.

Dinner Party Tables

Accommodating up to 30 people, request banquet seating in the main dining room right under the art sculpture installation by renowned artist Carlos Betancourt ‘Appropriations from El Rio: As Time Goes By,’ which consists of hundreds of three-dimensional elements that are suspended from the ceiling as an eternal explosion that has been frozen in time and space.
