Highlights include dramatic masquerade pageants, steel band competitions and the crowning of a Carnival King & Queen.

Miami’s Caribbean Festival takes place over Columbus Day Weekend and includes music, dance, enchanting costumes and rhythmic drumming. Guests from across the Caribbean fly in to take part in the parades and new competitions for decorative floats and fancy dress are added each year. In 1990, the first Junior Carnival Parade was staged the day before the main parade to encourage all South Florida kids to join with thousands of their Caribbean classmates and participate in this diverse celebration.

Get ready for days of family fun, face painting for the kids and lots of great ethnic foods from all across the Islands. Miami’s Junior Carnival takes place Saturday, September 29th, 2018 from 12noon-11pm at Central Broward Regional Park. Steel Bands will compete in “Panorama,” a championship match featuring musicians from across the globe Friday, October 5th from 4pm-11pm at the Central Broward Regional Park and J’ouvert is a massive street party, 7am-3pm, on Saturday, October 6. Art Basel Miami Beach FAQs https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/art-basel-miami-beach-faqs/ Sat, 01 Oct 2016 00:06:50 +0000 http://www.southbeach-usa.com/news/?p=4135 [...]]]> Art Basel Miami Beach kicks off this year, December 3-6, 2015, with a dazzling round of exhibits and parties both public and private. The cultural highlight of the social season takes a great deal of planning and a significant number of outfits to keep in step with the big money art crowd! As the sister event of Switzerland’s Art Basel in June, the Miami Beach winter gathering is the most important art show in the United States and the only domestic opportunity for art collectors to explore and purchase a vast array of museum-caliber art works.

tvl059hf-170Art Basel has proven to be such a successful venture for South Florida tourism, the City of Miami Beach signed a partnership transaction with Art Basel parent company Messe Schweiz giving them a financial stake in the Miami Beach Convention Center to guarantee that Art Basel returns annually through 2011. Art Basel would not agree to the return of the Fair more than a year in advance until this lucrative deal was ironed out last month. In exchange for this hefty concession, the City gets a promise of just three more years of the Fair.

Last season’s show featured more than 220 leading art galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa exhibiting 20th and 21st Century artworks created by over 2,000 unique artists. Additional gallery space is dedicated to young artists, performance art, public art projects and video and sound installations.

Local museums, galleries and collectors also curate installations in tandem with the Basel events to make this a multi-layered art-centered spectacular. As the rest of the world settles in for a long winter’s chill, South Florida heats up with a sizzling celebration of design, painting, sculpture and multi-media works for an international crowd of art enthusiasts, celebrities and scenesters who arrive on private planes and commercial jets and fill literally every hotel room in the county.

We look forward to welcoming you to Art Basel 2008 and promise to keep you posted on the best shows, the hottest parties and all of the late-breaking events.

Delano Hotel Miami Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/delano-hotel-miami-beach/ Mon, 11 Jul 2016 00:07:41 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=1214 [...]]]> In the mid-’90s when the Delano opened its doors, it not only welcomed a bevy of A-list celebrities and fiercely-hip jet setters, it also marked the second chapter of development in South Beach. Designer Ian Schrager affectionately called his latest creation “undersigned,” a notion that embodies the “less to see, more to feel” mantra South Beach has become known for. Hidden from the street by a wall of greenery, the front terrace, situated just off the main lobby, has an oversized, stark-white couch and inviting chairs suggesting that there is no distinction between indoors and outdoors, formal and casual, fantasy and reality.

Rose Bar
Rose Bar

Brazilian cherrywood floors and 18,000 feet of white gossamer curtains set the perfect stage for a mix of surreal furniture that pay homage to the likes of Antoni Gaudi and Salvador Dali. The lobby’s Rose Bar is the just the aperitif for two of South Beach’s most popular dining destinations. First find UMI Sushi & Sake Bar, an elegant communal dining table in the center of the lobby serving Japanese seafood, craft cocktails and a variety of sakes. At the back of the property, overlooking the garden and pool terrace is Bianca, a modern eatery featuring Chef Jason Bamford’s Italian-inspired menu. Terra-cotta stairs lead the way from the restaurant to the Orchard where one would hardly be surprised to see the Mad Hatter or Queen of Hearts playing with the life-size chess pieces, or Alice herself peering into one of the full-length mirrors propped against the trunk of a ficus tree.

Orchard at the Delano Beach Club
Orchard at the Delano Beach Club

A museum-like gift shop (not a flamingo magnet in site), a well-appointed fitness center, a pristine private beach and rooftop Agua Spa that embodies what sitting on a cloud must be like are only a few reasons visitors ignore the beckoning of the outside world for the enchanting haven of relaxation that is the Delano. Late night guests gravitate to FDR Lounge in the lower lobby where a mixed format of live performers and top DJs sets the mood.

Miami Boat Show https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/miami-international-boat-show/ Thu, 12 Feb 2015 00:55:09 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=577 [...]]]> The 70th Annual Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail is the highlight of the February tourist season bringing over 130,000 visitors and more than 3,800 boat and nautical accessory exhibitors to our shores. Produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, a trade group representing about 80% of the companies that make boats, boat engines, trailers and gear for North American sportsmen, the show kicks off February 12-16 at the Miami Beach Convention Center and remote sites along Biscayne Bay in Downtown Miami and on Indian Creek north of 41st Street on Miami Beach.

The Convention Center floor and surrounding parking lots are packed with a million square-feet of boats and accessories offering guests a chance to check out the latest in personal watercraft from jet skis, inflatables, high performance speedboats, luxury yachts and all the gear to go along with them. The Sea Isle Marina on North Bayshore Drive hosts an impressive fleet of power boats and the Miamarina at Bayside Marketplace in Downtown Miami houses magnificent sailing craft. Each site is serviced by complimentary shuttle bus service making it quick and easy to glide through the exhibits without the hassle of traffic and searching for a parking spot.

Within the Convention Hall, The Big Game Room hosts over 100 exhibits dedicated to the sport fishing industry on the second level of the concourse. Vendors of rods, reels, hooks and lines join with the promoters of popular tournaments and fishing travel destinations to create a dedicated area for anglers at the show. Famous big game sportsmen and members of the Game Fishing Hall of Fame hold informative educational seminars on sport fishing, spear fishing, boat maintenance, fly-casting, and billfish challenges during the week. Improve your chances of landing a trophy catch at the Big Game Room.

In the calm waters of Indian Creek north of 41 Street, an awe-inspiring display of dozens of mega-yachts attracts a crowd of big spenders and big dreamers who marvel at the custom appointments including hot tubs and helicopters propped on deck. Southbound traffic along Collins Avenue grinds to a halt so curious onlookers can check out the bikini models and temporary disco docks set up to entertain the crowds. Champagne flows at waterside parties designed to attract the few remaining customers who are still in the market for an 85-foot cruiser with teak decks, polished fittings and glamorous staterooms.

Making Plans

A show of this magnitude takes over the entire city, booking out most hotel rooms, rental cars, and table reservations at popular restaurants. The fact that the event coincides with the 3-day President’s weekend when families frequently plan a Spring getaway adds even more volume to the annual traffic. It turns out that only those wise enough to confirm dates well in advance can hope to find a spot anywhere on the beach during Boat Show Week. If you follow this guide and confirm your reservations well in advance, your Boat Show visit will be ship shape in no time!

Hotels that are within walking distance to the Miami Beach Convention Center are available at every price point from the full service beachfront resorts along Collins Avenue to the smaller boutique properties found along James Avenue and Lincoln Road. If you are looking for ocean views, room service and all the amenities of a top shelf South Beach vacation, check rates at the Delano, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach and the Setai. If they are already booked,(and chances are they just might be filled with nautical bigwigs), venture to the W Hotel, the Shelborne, the Surfcomber and the National. For spacious beachfront rooms with an en suite kitchenette, the Sagamore has an upscale vibe and a lovely pool.

To save a little money so you can buy a bigger boat, smaller properties near the Convention Center still offer plenty of creature comforts but do not have ocean views, luxe swimming pools or 24 hour room service. At James Avenue, the Crest and Cadet Hotels join the Sanctuary in offering quiet guest rooms and a very short walk to the action. At 22nd Street, the Vintro is one of South Beach’s hidden gems for a bed & breakfast style getaway. On Lincoln Road, the Albion Hotel offers easy access to restaurants and bars and a mod hipster vibe in the renovated Art Deco lobby lounge. For an inexpensive hotel that’s a step away from the chic oceanfront retreats, the Gale has a fun rooftop pool & a cool Rec Room lounge and Catalina Beach Club has simply appointed rooms, a busy sidewalk cafe, a complimentary happy hour for hotel guests and a younger clientele.

Dining on South Beach during the Boat Show can be most challenging at the top-rated steakhouses and landmark restaurants. If you hope to score a table at Prime 112, Casa Tua or Meat Market, make reservations well in advance, confirm them a week prior to your arrival and expect to cool your heels in the bar while the hostess manages overflow crowds. Joe’s Stone Crab does not take reservations but a generously loaded handshake can sometimes minimize the wait. Other upscale options include Morimito or Katsuya for sushi, 1826 or Villa Azur for a supperclub atmosphere and the Edison’s new Matador Room for Latin-inspired fare.

Restaurants closest to the Convention Center are a welcome relief from mundane snack bar foods served on site. For a casual outing just steps away from the show, the sidewalk cafes of Lincoln Road are a welcome relief. Spris and Rosinella offer casual Italian fare. Khong River House, Doraku Sushi and Sushi Samba Dromo create interesting fusions of Japanese and Asian cuisines. Baires Grill is a cozy Argentinean steakhouse just across from New York’s own Shake Shack and AltaMare serves some of the freshest seafood on the mall. If you follow a gluten-free lifestyle, Oolite Cafe serves Florida fresh cuisine that’s healthy, organic and delicious!

For a quick drink between yachts, find Yard House, 100 Montaditos or Finnegan’s Too Bar. For authentic German beers, Hofbrau Munchen Beerhall is as close to Munich as you’re likely to find. At Happy Hour, nip into HuaHua’s Taqueria, Balans, Nexxt Cafe, or Lucky Strike Lanes. At the friendly Tex-Mex Rosa Mexicano, drinks and snacks are discounted after 4pm. Collins Avenue celebrates Happy Hour at Social Club at the Shelborne, Maxine’s and the Raleigh Hotel Martini Bar where drinks and snacks are just $7.

Design Miami 2014 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/design-miami/ Sun, 16 Nov 2014 00:22:38 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=481 [...]]]> Design Miami celebrates art, architecture and modern industrial design at a grand pavilion erected in the rear parking lot of the Miami Beach Convention Center (at 19th Street & Meridian Avenue) so guests of Art Basel can access the site on foot. Showcasing cutting edge home furnishings crafted by contemporary artists, unique objects cast in resin, metal, concrete and wood and providing a glimpse of the kind of next-wave crafts only seen in glossy shelter magazines, Design Miami is a dazzling compendium of “What’s Next!”

At the heart of the main Miami Beach show tent, international design galleries display museum-quality furniture and objects d’art, lighting and sculpture often affordable only to private collectors or museums who wish to exhibit exceptional works dating back to the Modernism movement of the 1900s. The venue also features scheduled Design Talks where guests can participate in panel discussions, lectures and interviews with some of the biggest names in art, architecture and design. Design Satellite exhibits are staged throughout the city breaking the barriers of traditional museum presentations and allowing all interested parties to view the design process.

Once Art Week kicks off in December, guests face the daunting task of sorting out what exhibits, parties, seminars and performances should fill their overwhelming schedules. Design Miami operates twice-hourly shuttle busses to transport passengers from the main pavilion on Miami Beach to the Design District near MidTown to make it easier to reach Miami events without the hassles of renting a car or finding parking. From there, transport to the Midtown art fair tents is also available free of charge.

Design Miami is located at 19th Street & Meridian Avenue directly behind the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Show Dates are December 3-7, 2014

Collectors, dealers, patrons and artists meet and mingle inside giant tents which are outfitted with state-of-the-art viewing galleries filled with paintings, sculpture, photography and mixed media compilations that are all for sale.

Unlike a tour through a modern art museum, the name of the game during Art Week in Miami is millions of dollars in sales! Art Miami showcases over 100 international galleries all trying to attract affluent collectors to new works by famous or undiscovered talent. Recent exhibits included huge installations meticulously crafted out of colorful aluminum drink cans re-purposed as art, taxidermy sheep heads engineered to weep softly as fans passed by and brightly colored canvasses of every shape and size.

The fair kicks off this year on December 5th with an opening night charity preview that benefits Lotus House Women’s Shelter in Downtown Miami. Last year’s opening gala was reported to have attracted more than 7,000 guests to the 125,000 square foot pavilion at the heart of MidTown Mall. While the streets south of the tents are filled with indie galleries and the new frontier that is Wynwood Arts District, Art Miami guests can find ample secure parking at the mall garages and enjoy many fine and casual dining options nearby.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/south-beach-wine-food-festival/ Thu, 25 Sep 2014 00:41:23 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=639 [...]]]> FoodTV Network’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival rolls around February 19-22, 2015, and is a celebrity chef juggernaut bringing all the familiar faces from popular cooking shows to South Beach for round the clock parties, culinary demonstrations and cookbook autographing events. Whether you love to cook or simply like to watch other people slicing, dicing and grilling their way through the day on television, the events surrounding this Food & Wine Magazine sponsored weekend are lots of fun. Tickets for the event and reservations for chef dinners at restaurants all over town sell out well in advance so visit the event website, survey the choices and secure your spot in early October.

Currently in its 13th year on the sands of South Beach, the SBWFF is a star-studded, four day love fest for the characters who teach you how to prepare 30 Minute Meals, add a little BAM! to your dishes and take you on a road trip to some pretty tasty Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Rachael, Emeril, Guy and Bobby mix it up with some of Miami’s top toques and spend their days meeting and mingling with fans who pay hundreds of dollars to join in champagne BBQs, haute Burger Bashes and luxe midnight suppers. Paula Deen, Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert and the new faces from Food Network Star attract over 55,000 guests to South Beach each year setting new records in festival attendance.

To date, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival has raised over $17 million to support the Florida International University School of Hospitality and Tourism Management including expanding teaching facilities and endowing scholarships for students. In addition to monetary support, culinary students are invited to work side by side with the super star chefs as they ready for their presentations at the fest. To learn about new offers, the latest dinner parties and who will be making a splash at the next festival before tickets go on sale, follow the event on FaceBook and Twitter and sign up for the Juicy Tidbits newsletter.

Miami Spa Month https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/miami-spa-month/ Mon, 28 Jul 2014 00:29:20 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=612 [...]]]> Miami Spa Month is July 1st to August 31st, 2014. Miami’s summer heat may wreck havoc on your hair and skin, but it is no match for hundreds of local professionals eager to launch a counter-offensive during Miami Spa Month, 60 days of discount treatments designed to help you look your best. Greater Miami and the Beaches have some of America’s top spas which attract travelers year round who seek a little extra pampering during their Florida vacation. To enhance the travel experience during summer’s hottest months, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitor’s Bureau organizes Spa Month to offer off-price packages designed to rub you the right way!

The fifth annual “PamperPallooza” kicks off in July with packages of spa treatments marked down to just $99 at most of the city’s most desired destinations. While smaller day spas also participate in the seasonal offer, some of the largest luxury hotel spas are also available at the same price. Adding to the value of your personal investment at spots like the Lapis Spa at the Fontainebleau Resort are reduced rates on valet parking and unrestricted access to the hotel’s spectacular Vegas-style pool deck where luxury VIP cabanas and drink service are just part of the charm.

Other beachfront spa locations include Agua at the Mondrian and Delano Hotels, Bliss at the W South Beach, Canyon Ranch’s Wellness Spa, Elemis Spa at the Loews South Beach and the fashionista’s favorite hideaway – ELLE Spa at the Eden Roc Miami Beach. Many spa packages include access to adjacent fitness centers such as the Ritz-Carlton South Beach Spa on Lincoln Road and Spa V at the Victor Hotel. Reservations for all appointments are required and most treatment menus will be posted on the official website in the Spring.

Circ X at the Fillmore https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/circx-cabaret-fillmore-miami-beach/ Sun, 27 Jul 2014 15:07:03 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=9642 [...]]]> The beautifully bizarre performance troupe, Circ X, partners with the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater to produce Miami’s own resident cabaret coming in September.

Says Circ X leader Diana Andrew-Lozano …

Thanks to the help of our backers on Kickstarter in 2012, we were able to produce our anniversary retro-spectacle on the Main Stage at the Fillmore to a packed house. We knew then that Miami was ready and hungry for this type of entertainment so we applied for a Knight Arts Challenge grant to pursue our dream of creating our resident cabaret show.

Unlike their previous three-hour performance marathon, this show will be condensed into one hour and performed TWICE in one evening. This will help keep the ticket cost low and allow more flexibility to either catch the show before dinner or afterwards.

The show will feature a variety of “short format” acts from neo-burlesque to theatrical circus artistry, showcasing South Florida’s fringe performance artists and providing them a place to take risks and explore.

Catch the next Circ X performance at the Fillmore Miami Beach on September 20th, 2014. To support the CircX Cabaret, go to KickStarter and make a pledge.

Art Basel Miami Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/art-basel-miami-beach/ Tue, 08 Jul 2014 00:39:16 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=450 [...]]]> The cultural juggernaut that is Art Basel Miami Beach, which kicks-off December 4–7, 2014, has changed the tourist season on South Beach forever. International art fans, artists, gallery owners, art buyers and journalists fill the city with the deafening roar of art and commerce. Celebrities host great parties, wealthy patrons open their homes to tours of their priceless collections, clever PR flacks promote midnight pool parties, clandestine boat tours and meet & greets with reclusive artists. And then—like a mirage in a desert—all of the glitzy installations simply vanish overnight and the resort town goes back to business as usual.

Note: This year, Dec. 3rd will be reserved only for VIP guests: a “First Choice VIP” at 11 a.m. followed by “Preview VIP” at 3 p.m.

Instead of the brief lull between the family rush at Thanksgiving and the build up to Christmas & New Year’s events, the full capacity crowds that overwhelm every restaurant, bar, and hotel room in Downtown Miami and Miami Beach during the first week of December are now an annual occurrence. As a harbinger to the art assault last year, huge pink plastic snails appeared as if by magic at intersections all over Miami Beach to alert locals of the coming Art Basel BOOM! Sister exhibit to the prestigious Art Basel fair in Switzerland, the Miami Beach show draws thousands to the sunny shores of South Beach where days of film, music, art and architecture are celebrated in live performances, hourly seminars, guest lectures and spontaneous public displays.

Works from more than 2000 international artists line galleries at the Miami Beach Convention Center and adjunct contemporary pieces fill shipping containers at the Art Park at 21st Street Beach. Nightly concerts, International DJs and dancing under the stars make this the most popular after party in town. Satellite shows at many Miami Beach hotels and fairs across the bay in Miami are also scheduled during Basel week so critics, curators and collectors can make the most of their time in Miami. While the atmosphere can sometimes feel like a circus, for most visitors Art Basel is the greatest show on earth!

Miami Beach travelers may experience the Setai, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, The Villa by Barton G and the brand new W South Beach Hotel. Other visitors prefer their five-star hotels on the quieter side and choose Acqualina in Sunny Isles Beach or the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami. These top tier locations feature plush amenities such as pampering spas, gourmet dining and attentive service to facilitate a dream vacation for every guest.

The Setai

2001 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL
One of the most serene and truly breathtaking hotels in Miami Beach, The Setai is an Asian-accented oceanfront oasis of calm in the very center of the scene. A unique combination of tranquility and luxury just steps away from the city’s top restaurants and nightclubs makes this one of the most desired destinations for the discerning traveler.

The Setai

Interior Designer Jaya Pratomo Ibrahim crafted this breathtaking resort in dark woods with tropical gardens, sparkling reflecting pools and relaxing sundecks overlooking a stretch of white sand beach.

A Pacific Rim-inspired spa offers private suites overlooking the surf where guests enjoy pampering treatments targeting the restoration and realignment of the body.

Choose a casual meal at the hotel grill, an alfresco cocktail with lunch poolside or a more formal dinner service at The Restaurant where a battalion of international chefs crafts a unique menu at the demonstration kitchen in view of the dining room. The hotel offers three temperature-regulated pools and direct beach access with food and drink service, magazines and iPods; making it easy to relax and enjoy the sun.

The Ritz-Carlton South Beach

1 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL
The Ritz-Carlton South Beach offers families and business travelers a unique combination of sophisticated luxury and quick access to the shops and sidewalk cafes along Lincoln Road Mall making it one of the best locations for exploring this dynamic city

Few properties in the area are large enough to provide full resort amenities including a full-service pool and beach club, 7-day fitness, spa and salon services, an in-house designer shopping mall plus gourmet indoor and outdoor dining options.

Located within walking distance of the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Ritz-Carlton has more than 20,000 square feet of conference facilities and a dedicated business center for executives on the go.

Enjoy cocktails in the lobby bar, fruit-flavored hookah pipes at the Morroccan-inspired beach oasis, lavish brunch buffets in the hotel bistro or a classic martini in the Lapidus Lounge. Parents can relax and reconnect while the tots are safely entertained in the hotel’s Kids Club and couples and singles can enjoy a pampering getaway at the spa or inside one of the poolside VIP cabanas overlooking the sea.

The Villa by Barton G

No other destination in the city embraces La Dolce Vita quite like this 19,000 square foot resort which features millions of dollars in hand-crafted mosaics, dazzling pools, shaded grottoes and private lounges. A dazzling fantasy, this historic Ocean Drive villa is the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway or a dream honeymoon. Guest preferences are noted prior to check-in so that each room reflects their personal taste in flowers, food and level of service (from attentive to invisible).

Restaurateur Barton G, who is famous for his imaginative events and whimsical dining destinations, supervises the hotel’s exclusive restaurant which offers just 30 seats and one of the most innovative menus in town. Butlers attend the hotel’s 10 custom suites where king-sized beds, marble baths, cozy sitting rooms and private balconies overlook the Art Deco District and the sea. Enjoy the pool, two private lounges or star-gazing on the rooftop patio where the Versace family spent many happy days enjoying the glorious South Beach scene.

W South Beach Hotel

2201 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL

The resort boasts 5-star dining at Mr. Chow and Solea restaurants plus pool and beachside service day and night. Evening action focuses on the W Living Room, the poolside WET nightclub and Wall dance club just steps way.

Guests can tone up at the fitness center, shoot baskets on the roof or simply relax and enjoy over 300 feet of white sandy beach.

The W also provides transport around the city by bike, skates or free rides in their chauffeur-driven Acura SUVs. The W Hotel makes it easy to relax or explore all the nearby sights, restaurants and nightlife that makes South Beach one of the world’s most popular destinations.

Acqualina Resort & Spa

17875 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, FL
Acqualina is located 150 streets to the north of the Art Deco District in Sunny Isles Beach where city fathers decided to transform the local landscape from a sleepy group of retro snowbird motels into a glittering Vegas-style strip of luxury beachfront high rises.

Acqualina Resort & Spa
Acqualina Resort & Spa

While South Beach incorporates historically significant properties with newer luxury hotels, this tiny city by the sea called upon real estate developers like Donald Trump to transform the guest experience into a full service mega-resort destination.

Acqualina takes it’s design inspiration from a posh Mediterranean villa facing 400 feet of unobstructed Atlantic coast. The property comprises 188 private residences and just 97 hotel rooms and suites with two gourmet restaurants, three swimming pools and a 20,000 square foot spa. Guests enjoy elegantly appointed havens with private terraces, flat panel TVs and oversized marble baths.

Parents can take advantage of a fully staffed marine biology-based kids program to entertain the tykes while mom and dad reconnect. The beach club features a zero-entry pool, an adults-only recreation area, private cabanas and food and drink service.

The world-renowned spa has steam and sauna, ice fountains and invigorating showers plus a full menu of body and facial treatments designed to pamper and restore. While Sunny Isles Beach is at a quiet remove from the city’s most popular restaurants and nightclubs, a 24-hour multilingual concierge staff can arrange transport to the shops at Bal Harbour, Aventura or South Beach.

Mandarin Oriental Miami

500 Brickell Key, Miami, FL
Steps away from Miami’s international financial district, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel is designed to offer a tranquil respite for romantic vacations, business travelers and pampering family getaways.

Hotel guests can spend the day at a luxurious spa and fitness center practicing yoga, pilates, belly dancing and Tai Chi. The Oasis Beach Club’s 20,000 square-foot white sand beach adjoins the swimming pool, jacuzzi terrace and sushi pool bar. Guests can relax on shaded day beds, snooze in comfortable hammocks or experience a deep-tissue massage inside a private VIP cabana.

For more personalized pampering, the 17 treatment rooms set over a massive full-service spa offer his & her therapies inside an Asian-inspired oasis. Offering traditional Chinese medicinal rejuvenation, Thai massage, sauna and steam rooms, the Mandarin Oriental is one of Miami’s most popular destinations for a day of rejuvenation or a longer and more relaxing escape.

Mandarin Oriental guests can enjoy a tropical cocktail at M-Bar, an exotic meal overlooking the exhibition kitchen and Biscayne Bay at Azul or a sake-tini and a sushi roll at the more casual Cafe Sambal. What distinguishes a vacation at the Mandarin Oriental is surely the level of service which is known the world over to be discrete, well-informed and always on hand. For full-service resort amenities that put the pleasure back into traveling, the elegant rooms and suites at this Brickell Key retreat provide the ultimate luxury escape in South Florida.

4th of July in Miami Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/fourth-of-july-miami/ Tue, 24 Jun 2014 00:32:09 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=526 [...]]]> The 4th of July in Miami & Miami Beach is celebrated, among other locations, at 10th Street Beach where the city hosts an evening of music followed by a dazzling fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean. Traffic along the busy Ocean Drive strip from 5-15th Street is diverted for the holiday to create a safer street party atmosphere and travelers and locals gather on the shore and at sidewalk cafes near 10th Street to get a front row seat to all of the action. A second fireworks display and pops concert on North Beach takes place at 73 Street Beach on Collins Avenue.

Meanwhile, in Downtown Miami, the City Fathers host an evening of music and fireworks just south of Bayside Marketplace (301 N. Biscayne Boulevard) in Downtown Miami at Bayfront Park where crowds bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy a picnic under the stars and fireworks at 9pm over Biscayne Bay. Coconut Grove celebrates in Peacock Park and Key Biscayne residents party on the Village Green.

If you want to attend one of the city fireworks festivals, be certain to arrive early as parking is often at a premium and traffic and crowds fill the streets making it unusually difficult to get where you want to go. Beach goers should refrain – as always – from bringing glass containers onto the sand but picnics, beach chairs and towels are essential. All activities are FREE and open to the public. Start times for musical performances vary, but most fireworks start sizzling at 9pm.

Fireworks locations around town

• Bayfront Park Downtown Miami – 301 North Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL.
• Peacock Park Coconut Grove – 2820 McFarlane Road, Coconut Grove, FL.
• Village Green Park Key Biscayne – 400 Crandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne, FL.
• South Beach Visitors Center – 1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL.

This year’s official City of Miami Beach Fourth of July celebration moves to North Beach for an all-day festival with food trucks, live music (Spam Allstars and Marshall Brothers Band) and more. Catch waterfront sparklers from the North Shore Bandshell located at 73rd and Collins Avenue promptly at 9pm. Where: North Shore Bandshell, 73rd and Collins Avenue.

Fireworks for Foodies: Juvia

Reserve a space atop this popular Miami Beach rooftop to catch the fireworks and enjoy the harmonious blend of the regional cuisines of Asia, the vibrant flavors of South America and classic French techniques in the form of ceviches, tiraditos, fresh seafood and prime meats. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection maintains a voluntary Green Lodging initiative for the hospitality industry throughout the state which recognizes hotels that have made a commitment to green conservation, thereby protecting Florida’s valuable natural resources.

The program establishes environmental guidelines by which hotels may measure their level of compliance. To qualify, hotels must implement environmental practices in six areas of sustainability: Communication and Education for Customers and Employees, Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling, Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality and Transportation.

Parking in South Beach & Miami Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/parking-miami-beach/ Wed, 04 Jun 2014 14:03:16 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=8272 [...]]]> parking1Parking—the eternal problem in South Beach. Where to park; where to get change for the meter; who to call if your car gets towed. The list is endless, but not hopeless. Just a few tips will save you hours of fried nerves during your visit to Miami Beach.

Tip #1…Don’t bring a car at all unless you have to. Take a taxi or shuttle from the airport to Miami Beach. Once you’re here, everywhere you’ll want to go is either a five minute walk or a $0.25 ride on the South Beach Local, which circles South Beach continuously. South Beach parking map is here.

Tip #2…Miami Beach has installed brand new solar-powered parking meters in certain high-traffic areas of the city such as Ocean Drive. These machines operate with dollars or credit/debit cards instead of change. These photos will help you get acquainted with them.

and many other locations.

Miami Beach Ocean Rescue / Beach Patrol https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/ocean-rescue-beach-patrol/ Wed, 28 May 2014 14:44:34 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=1131 [...]]]> While you’re enjoying the beach there is a group of trained professionals watching out for your safety. The Miami Beach Ocean Rescue Team is headquartered in the 1936 art deco Beach Patrol Building at 10th Street and Ocean Drive. Auxiliary headquarters are up at 72nd Street in a structure known as the “House of Refuge,” originally built in 1876 to assist ship-wreak victims.

The State of Florida has a system of warning flags that are posted on lifeguard towers to advise beach-goers of beach conditions and warn of impending dangerous situations.
